Baccarat Rules
If you have ever played baccarat you will know that it is great fun. For those of you who have not tried this game then next time you are at the casino give it a go.
Baccarat has to be one of the card games with the easiest rules. In many ways the game resembles Blackjack but In fact it is far easier and better than Blackjack. It does not have any complicated rules as such.
The game is played from either a six or eight deck shoe. The 10 card and all the picture cards have a "0" value while the ace is worth "1". All the other cards hold their face value. In this game the suits of the cards hold no value. The idea is that the hand dealt should add up to 9 in order to win so if the sum is 10 or above the digit on the left is omitted. For example, if the sum of the cards is 15, it is taken as 5.
To begin the game, the players need to bet either on the bankers hand or the players hand or on a "tie". The dealer begins by dealing two cards to both the hands. If one hand reaches 9 in the very first two cards, it is called a "natural" and the hand automatically wins. Even if the hand adds up to 8, it is a natural and the hand wins.
The dealer always deals first to the player and then to the banker. Depending on the sum of the cards, a third card may be given to both the player and the banker. Remember the hand that gets 0 or a sum closest to 9 wins.
If the game goes to three cards there are a few more rules but you don't really need to know them initially to play, as they are more compulsory decisions that will become clear automatically.
As mentioned earlier, Baccarat does not have too many rules to worry about and is definitely not complicated. It is easy to play the game and when you win it is extremely rewarding. Something to remember is that placing a bet on "tie" too often is not a very wise move. It is very rare to get a "tie" - roughly 1 in 10 hands.
